Memorial Trust

Foreningen sejlskib Yukon CVR 44119277 sailingvesselyukon@gmail.com

Dear all…

This introductory letter is the culmination of a process that has been occupying our time the past few months. After the death of Ea Lassen last December, we decided as a family to take Yukon off the market, and create a memorial trust in her honour. This decision was a source of great satisfaction for we three remaining members of the sailing family Nash Lassen, but before I go into detail I will give a bit of back story, for those of you that are not familiar with our vessel.

Yukon was built in 1930 in Frederikshavn Denmark and sailed as a fishing vessel until the mid-seventies. She came into our ownership in 1997 and underwent an extensive renovation from 1997 to 2004, we operated as a charter vessel in Scandinavian waters until 2010. There we embarked on our circumnavigation where we ended up settling in Tasmania for a little longer than expected. We reestablished ourselves in a new charter business from 2012 to 2022. Our return voyage home to Denmark was a great success and our dream of returning to our home on the small island of Strynø in July 2023 was the fulfillment of a long-held ambition.

Yukon has sailed over 50 000 miles under the stewardship of the Nash Lassen family, crossed all the oceans of the world and visited dozens of countries and hundreds of islands.

We have always enjoyed the privilege of sailing with our voyage crew. Some experienced mariners, most complete novices. The ideal of sailing aboard Yukon is to discover the ways of a traditionally rigged sailing vessel and learn the way of life at sea ,we so cherish. It also gives one the opportunity to arrive at some beautiful locations and cultures.

Tragically my dear wife, Ea succumbed to Ovarian Cancer in December 2024 and left us with an irreplaceable hole in our lives. Ea had been instrumental in nearly every aspect of planning, restoring and operating our lovely little ship, and one of her final dreams was that the family continued to sail and explore the oceans aboard Yukon.

The principal of our trust is that only paid-up members can sail with us. This is a quite common arrangement in Denmark and enables vessels particularly traditional wooden ships to operate and be preserved under a principal of shared responsibility and ownership.

We have formed a committee and held our initial general meeting in which we voted to approve the terms and conditions that will govern the trust, these are written in Danish and can be found here; in this day and age of google translate I have chosen the easy way out. All correspondence to our membership will be in English due to the number of members living outside of Denmark.

Please peruse the following and contact us if you have any queries.

On behalf of the trusts committee, I wish you all well

David Nash .
